About

This website will be home to the Uno de Mayo Project whose deadline is May 1, 2010.   Simply put, the Uno de Mayo project is my commitment to have completed writing a book about the year I have just spent living in Las Vegas, NM, trying to make a difference in a little call center in the highlands of that state.

The name, Las Vegas MyOptic, came about because I was thinking about writing first an article and if they liked it then maybe a column in the Las Vegas, NM, newspaper, The Optic.  Then while wondering what I would call my column, it occurred to me that I would have a section of the Optic called MyOptic.  That was such a good idea that I decided to abandon submitting anything to the Optic, wish them my very best as I walk out the door, and instead use the idea as the basis for a website.  A somewhat myoptic view of Las Vegas from afar by someone who was recently a citizen.  My views and my way of saying things should not reflect unfavorably on The Optic since they have nothing whatsoever to do with this site, but I wanted to make the disclaimer nonetheless.

I will invite those of you who also lived through last year to contribute your perception of the events that we lived through together.  I don’t for once believe that my view of what happened was the only one that is valid.  I will try to keep the narrative rolling and the project on time and on schedule.  The site will evolve as the ideas evolve.  For now, welcome.  Comment if you like.  Register if you wish.  If you’d like author status so you can post approved articles here, let me know.
